Autograph document signed: "John H. Buell/ Ensign" in faded black ink. 1 page, 3¾x2½. Gallipolis settlement, Ohio. June, 4, 1791. In full: "Corps of Rangers/ four days Bread for [illegible]/ the note of three pounds a Day 12th/ Gallipolis June the 4th 1791". John H. Buellwas an Ensign (modern-day second lieutenant) who spent the end of the eighteenth century at the Gallipolis settlement in Ohio; he was promoted to the rank of Major and became an Infantry commander at Fort Adams, Mississippi after the turn of the century. Toned. Edges frayed. Creased throughout. Stains throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
