Manuscript document signed: "John H. Buell/ Ensign" in faded
black ink. 1 page, 6x4. Detailed account of the, "Provision return for
seventeen men & three noncommissioned officers of the guard". Dated June
the 20th (year unknown). John H. Buell was an Ensign (modern-day
second lieutenant) who spent the end of the eighteenth century at the
Gallipolis settlement in Ohio; he was promoted to the rank of Major and
became an Infantry commander at Fort Adams, Mississippi after the turn of the
century. Edges frayed. Irregularly cut. Toned. Stained throughout. Slightly
worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
