December 1934. Despite his Brooklyn origin, John Halliday (1880-1947) was often
cast as an aristocratic foreigner. He fought with the British Army in the Boer
War, performed Gilbert & Sullivan musicals, and then made his Broadway
debut in 1912, specializing in sophisticated comedies. He was also adept at
playing roguish villains. His film roles began in the silent era, but his
best known movies appeared in the 1930s: Crime of the Century (1933),
Desire (1936), Intermezzo (1939) and Philadelphia Story (as
Katharine Hepburn's father, 1940). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New
York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening,
making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered
album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to
sign in fountain pen. Minor printing damages effecting "J" in John. Corners
lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
