JOHN HART
One of TV's two Lone Rangers signs a Fran Striker Lone Ranger novel, in character.
Book signed: "John Hart/'The Lone Ranger", 213p, 5¼x8. The Lone Ranger Rides North, by Fran Striker. N.Y: Grosset & Dunlap, 1946. Hardcover with dust jacket. Signed on half title page. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Mick Lafever, Hart's longtime agent. A leading stuntman beginning in the late 1930s, American actor JOHN HART (1917-2009) was getting major roles in Westerns and other action films by the early 1950s (Kansas Territory, The Great Adventures of Captain Kidd). Hart played the title role in TV's The Lone Ranger in 52 of its early episodes (1950-1953),while Clayton Moore was holding out for a higher salary. In later decades, he guest starred frequently on TV, including appearances in six episodes of Dallas (1979-1981). He reprised his Lone Ranger character on episodes of The Greatest American Hero (1981) and Happy Days (1982). FRAN STRIKER (1903-1962) wrote a series of Lone Ranger adventure stories, based on the radio series by George Trendle which first aired in 1933. Republic Pictures serialized the story twice, although most prints of those films have disappeared. Many actors portrayed the masked man on film and radio. John Hart and Clayton Moore shared the role on television, and claims to the character afterwards. Pages lightly toned. Fine condition.
