JOHN HAVLICEK. Ephemera signed: "John Havlicek". Actual piece of the parquet floor of the Boston Garden, 4¼x2x¾, signed on front in felt tip. Piece is affixed to wood display stand with an engraved metal plaque. The personification of Celtics pride and greatness, Havlicek played his entire NBA career (1962-1978) with what was then the most successful franchise in pro basketball. "Hondo" played on eight NBA championship teams (1963-1966, 1968-1969, 1974, 1976) and made 13 consecutive All-Star teams. Havlicek scored more points for the Celtics over his career than did Bill Russell or Larry Bird, more in fact, than any player in the team's history. The Boston Garden, built in 1928, was home to the Celtics and also hockey's Boston Bruins until 1995. Fans there watched the Celtics win 16 championships, the Bruins two more. The jerseys of 21 Celtic greats, including of course John Havlicek, hung from the Garden's rafters. So far the championship magic of the Boston Garden has not carried over to its successor, the Fleet Center. Fine condition.
