Price: $250.00
JOHN HUNT
Small color publicity photograph of an older John Hunt looking to the
left.
Photograph signed: "John Hunt". Color, 3½x5. John Hunt
(1910-1988) was an accomplished mountaineer, having spent childhood holidays
climbing in the Alps. When he was chosen to lead the team to conquer
Everest, he already had extensive knowledge of the Himalayas due to several
expeditions he took part in while serving in India in the 1930s. He did not put
himself on either of the two summit teams, believing that his role as a
coordinating leader would be more crucial to the success of the team as a whole.
He made it possible for Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to reach the top.
John Hunt was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 after leading the first
successful Mount Everest expedition. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso lightly shows
through behind signature. Fine condition.
