First Day Cover honoring American poet Sidney Lanier, eight-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Macon, GA, February 3, 1972, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Blatty wrote The Exorcist (Oscar for the script), Wolfe (1930-2018) wrote The Right Stuff and Bonfire of the Vanities. Spillane created detective Mike Hammer. Yerby wrote The Foxes of Harrow. Hersey (A Bell for Adano, Fiction), Terkel (The Good War, General Nonfiction), and Brooks (Annie Allen, Poetry) won Pulitzer Prizes. Warren, the first U.S. Poet Laureate, was awarded Pulitzer Prizes in Fiction (All the King's Men) and Poetry (Poems 1954-1956 and Now and Then: Poems 1976-1978). Minor ink stain at "Y" of Yerby's signature. Soiled at edges. Pencil notes on verso (unknown hand) no show through. Fine condition.
