JOHN HEWER
The actor makes a late attempt to send his resume to Theatre World's Daniel Blum
Typed letter signed: "John Hewer". 1 page, 7¼x10½. New York City, New York, December 30, 1954. To "Dear Mr. Blum" In full: "I expect that the enclosed sheet will be too late for your purpose but I thought it best to send one in just in case it might be in time. Unfortunately, after 'The Boy Friend' opened, I changed my apartment about three times and in the hurly burly your letter was mislaid and has only just come to light again--please accept my apologies. Yours sincerely, ". John Hewer (1922-2008) was a British stage and screen actor most known for his various television roles on Before the Fringe (1967), Nicholas Nickleby (1977) and Dave's Kingdom (1964). His most popular films are Law and Disorder (1958) and Strip Tease Murder (1961). Prominent in London's West End, Hewer acted in several musicals including Six of One and Sail Away. He starred as "Tony" in his only American Broadway credit, The Boy Friend (1954-1955), which toured for over a year. Hewer made one of his last musical performances in David Heneker's "Peg" at the Phoenix Theatre, London, 1984. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Toned. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
