Songs by Hiatt have been covered by many artists, including Three Dog Night, Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt and Willie Nelson. Hiatt's recording career to a big step forward with the release 1987 album, Bring the Family. His biggest hit, "Slow Turning," was released on the 1988 album of the same year. Hiatt, who has recorded 9 songs that reached the Billboard 200 chart, released a new album, The Open Road, in March 2010. Nominated for several Grammy awards but not yet winning one, Hiatt has scored other honors: Songwriter of the Year at the Nashville Music Awards (2000) and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Music Association (2008).
