JOHN HUBBARD
Vintage photo in checked jacket and cravat, inscribed in person to
collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul -/Best of
luck/John/Hubbard". B/w, 8x10. John Hubbard (1914-1988), who made his early
film appearances in musicals and Hal Roach comedies, had a few star turns in
the early 1940s (Turnabout, 1940; The Mummy's Tomb, 1942),
before returning to supporting roles after World War II. Later films included
The Buccaneer (1958) and Duel at Diablo (1966), but he was
primarily a TV actor in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition to single guest
appearances, he made recurring ones on The Mickey Rooney Show, My
Little Margie, Don't Call Me Charlie and Family Affair.
Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his
love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities.
While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars
with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Corners
worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso.
