clipping. John J. O'Neill (1846-1898) was a United States
Representative from Missouri. After studying law he opened a practice in his
native St. Louis, furthermore engaging in the manufacturing of gold pens. From
there he joined local politics, serving as a member of the State House of
Representatives from 1872 to 1878, and as a member of the municipal assembly
from 1879 to 1881. O'Neill was then elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives, a position held for five terms (1883-1889, 1891-1895),
serving as chairman of the Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings and of
the Committee on Labor. Irregularly cut. Left edge torn and frayed. Toned.
