Photograph Mount inscribed and signed: "For Barry D. Hoffman with all good/wishes
of/John Kenneth Galbraith - 1981". Color, 7¼x9¼ image, 10x13¼ overall (two surfaces).
Photograph taken by Fabian Bachrach (1917-2010), famed for his portrait photos of
Presidents and other public figures. Signature light in areas but legible. Otherwise fine condition.
Accompanied by a Bachrach presentation folder (11x13½). Right edge frayed. Lightly toned
and soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine condition. Galbraith (1908-2006), a Canadian-born
American economist, was Editor of "Fortune" magazine from 1943-1948. In 1958, he gained
attention with his book, The Affluent Society, the first of many volumes that challenged orthodox
assumptions of modern economics. A Professor of Economics at Harvard and Princeton
Universities, Galbraith served on a number of government committees, including The U.S.
Office of Price Administration and the Office of Economic Security (Director, 1946), and was
Ambassador to India from 1961-1963. Two items.
