The horse trainer pens a letter to an admirer thanking him for the letter he sent
Autograph Letter signed: “John Kent” in black ink, 4p, 4½x7 adjoined leaves. Felpham,
Bognor, 1898 June 14. Original mailing envelope, 4½x3½, included. Heavily toned. Irregular
top fold from having been torn open. To “Dear Sir”. In part: “I thank you most humbly for
you letter and this is such a pleasure to me to hear you speak of Lord George Bentinck in the
exemplary manner…I hope if you have read my book “the Racing Life of Lord George Cavendish
Bentinck, M.P. and other reminiscences” you have found [one word difficult to decipher] in it.”
Stain at "D" of "Dear Sir", as well as a few others throughout. Toned. Single horizontal fold.
Otherwise, fine condition. John Kent was a horse trainer and sportsman, as well as the
author of Racing Life of Lord George Cavendish Bentinck, M.P. and other reminiscences
(1892). In addition, he had two other works published: Records and reminiscences of
Goodwood and the dukes of Richmond (1896) and A few of my most favorite fox chases in
East Sussex (circa 1844). Two items.
