JOHN L. McCLELLAN
Typed Sentiment, signed in blue ink, clipped from the closing of a letter
Typed Sentiment signed: "With kindest regards and all good wishes,/Sincerely yours,/John L. McClellan", 8x5. Clipped from the closing of a letter. John Little McClellan (1896-1977), a WWI veteran, served as U.S. Representative (1935-1939) and U.S. Senator from Arkansas (1943 until his death in 1977). The powerful Democrat was Chairman of the Senate Committees on Expenditures in Executive Departments (1949-1953), Government Operations (1955-1973), Labor Management Relations (1957-1961) and Appropriations (1971-1977). McClellan led a walkout of Democrats from the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954 to protest the conduct of Senator Joseph McCarthy. His own committees conducted aggressive investigations into organized crime, fraud in government contracts, and labor racketeering. Edges lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
