Typed Letter signed: "John Mackovic" 1 page, 8½x11. Kansas City, Missouri, 1985 February 11. On letterhead of the Kansas City Chiefs Football Club addressed to Master Danny Coxon, N. Las Vegas, Neavada. In full: "Dear Danny: I understand that you are quite a fan of our Kansas City Chiefs, and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how pleased we are that we can number one among our biggest supporters. I am enclosing some information about our team that I might enjoy. With best wishes. Sincerely," John Mackovic was born on October 1, 1943 in Barberton, Ohio. An assistant coach at San Jose State (1969-1970) and the University of Arizona (1973-1976) he became the head football coach at Wake Forest University (1978-1980). In 1981 and 1982 he was an assistant coach for Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys, and became head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1983. While head coach of the Chiefs (1983-1986) his team had a record of 30-34, making one playoff appearance in his final year as head coach. After his NFL career he became head coach at the University of Illinois (1988-1991) going 1-2 in Bowl games, moving on to coach the University of Texas (1992-1997) going 1-2 in Bowl games, and head coach of the University of Arizona (2001-2003). In 2006 he was named head coach of the U.S. National football team and went on to win the 2007 IFAF World Cup. Normal mailing fold. Otherwise, fine condition.
