The film also starred Anne Baxter, Jeff Chandler and Rory Calhoun. In the year he made this Western, McIntire (who is sometimes credited as John McIntyre) narrated To Hell and Back and appeared in four additional feature films: The Phenix City Story, The Kentuckian, The Scarlet Coat and Stranger on Horseback. Radio, screen and television actor John McIntire (1907-1991) is best known for his Western roles, both in films and on television. He gained wide recognition for his two most popular television roles: Chris Hale, the trail master on Wagon Train (1961-1965) and Clay Grainger, the owner of the Shiloh Ranch, on NBC's The Virginian, television's first 90 minute Western series (1967-1970). The latter series also featured his real-life wife, Jeanette Nolan, as his wife, Holly Grainger (1968-1970). The couple, who met while performing on radio, were married from 1935 until McIntire's death in 1991 and had two children, including actor Tim McIntire, who predeceased them. Lightly creased. Soiled, light show through of ink stain on verso at 1 imprinted word. ¼-inch tear at upper right blank edge. Staple holes at upper and lower left background and lower right portion.
