JOHN "MULE" MILES COMBINATION
A signed note inscribed to a fan noting his involvement in the Negro Baseball League accompanied by a signed card with the printed logo for the Negro League team the Chicago American Giants. Extremely rare!
Combination 1) Autograph note signed: "To: Mike/Negro Baseball/League/John "Mule" Miles/Chicago American Giants/1946-1949", 6x4. Someone has drawn a baseball ball around Miles signature. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Corners lightly worn. Fine condition. 2) Printed card signed: "To-/"Jennifer"/Peace, Joy & Love/John "Mule" Miles", 5x3. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition. John "Mule" Miles played outfield for the Chicago American Giants of the Negro League (1946-1949), earning his nickname from a manager who exclaimed, "You hit a ball as hard as a mule kicks." He hit 11 homers in as many games in 1947. During World War II, Miles as an aviation mechanic had helped train the Tuskegee airmen. In later life, Miles coached local baseball and basketball teams in his native San Antonio, while pursuing careers in law enforcement and freelance photography. Two items.
