Autograph Letter signed: “John P. Medbury” in black ink, 1p, 7¼x10½. No place, 1944 July
7. On his personal letterhead. To “Dear Louie”. In full: “I called you before I left N.Y. but your
secretary said you wouldn't be back any more that day. Just wanted to tell you how much I
enjoyed running into you in N.Y. and that I appreciated your taking me on the “ “ with you. I
hope I have the opportunity of reciprocating soon out here. Best regards + remember me to Mrs.
Hobol + your daughter/ Cordialy [sic]”. John P. Medbury (1893-1947) was a Hollywood
writer. His most notable writing credits include the following: Among the Great Open Faces
(1932), Among the Latins (1934), and Love in Bloom (1935). Louis Sobol (1896-1986) was
an actor and producer who gained notoriety for his Broadway column “New York
Cavalcade”. Pencil note in an unknown hand to the left of the letter's closing. Lightly toned.
One vertical and one horizontal crease. Vertical crease runs through “n” of “John”. Upper
right-hand corner damaged. Otherwise, fine condition.
