John Palgrave Simpson (1807-1887) was a Victorian playwright who also wrote novels, travelogues, and journalistic comment. His diverse plays included both drama and comedy in a sentimental vein popular with audiences of the era. His most critically praised and enduring play was the comedy Scrap of Paper, first produced in 1861. Simpson was Secretary of the Dramatic Authors' Society from 1868 to 1883. Toned.
