Photograph signed: "John/Payne" and "Alice/Faye", both in black felt tip, b/w, 8x10. Pencil
note (unknown hand) on verso states that these signatures were acquired at preview
performances of a Broadway musical, Good News, in December 1974. JOHN PAYNE
(1912-1989) starred in film musicals of the late 1930s and early 1940s before switching to
action roles, mostly in Westerns. He also starred in a TV Western: The Restless Gun
(1957-1958). Payne was married first to actress Anne Shirley, and then to Gloria DeHaven.
He is the father of actress Julie Payne. ALICE FAYE (1915-1998) was a chorus girl who rose
to movie stardom in such films as In Old Chicago (1938), Rose of Washington Square
(1939), and Tin Pan Alley (1940). She co-starred with husband Phil Harris in a popular radio
comedy series. Semi-retired thereafter, she remained popular, often making TV and nightclub
appearances. Light corner creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
