JOHN QUALEN. Photograph inscribed and signed on verso: "To David:/God bless you/John Qualen". B/w, 3½x4¼. Canadian actor John Qualen, the son of a Norwegian pastor, moved from vaudeville to Broadway to film character roles to TV guest spots. Slightly built, with what some considered a tragic face, he often played victims - or little guys who show courage under pressure. He played the bewildered father of the Dionne quintuplets in The Country Doctor (1936) and underground operative Berger in Casablanca (1942). A favorite of director John Ford, he appeared in The Searchers (1955), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and other Ford films. Fine condition.
