Collection: 1) Original Art signed: "Joey Bishop", 5½x8½. Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt".Two horizontal folds. Otherwise, fine condition. 2) Typed Letter signed: "John E. Raitt", 1 page, 5½x8½. Delhi, New York, 1987 March 14. On John E. Raitt letterhead, written to "Dear Joey:", in full: "For several years I have been collecting autographs of World Famous People on sketches which I have made. These I have carefully mounted into albums along with a brief bio-graphical sketch of the personality. Although my source of pictures to sketch have of necessity been from newspapers and periodicals, not always a pleasing likeness, the response to my requests have been very gratifying. Recently I made the enclosed sketch of you from a picture which I have. I would greatly appreciate it if you would con-sent to autograph the drawing for me and return it. Enclosed you will find a self-addressed envelope for your convenience. Any comment or criticism which you may care to make on the the drawing will also be most welcome. Thanking you in advance for you time and consider-ation, I remain" with a handwritten postscript at bottom margin "P.S. I have enjoyed your acting and appearances many times!". Normal mailing fold. Otherwise, fine condition. And on verso of TLS, 3) Autograph Letter signed: "Joey", 1 page, 5½x8½. No place, no date. Written to "Dear John", in full: "I thought the likeness was terrific. I am enclosing a most recent photo & would appreciate your copying it for me so I can use it in the [Illegible]. Please let me know if there is any change for this. [Illegible] regards." Normal mailing fold. Otherwise, fine condition. Nightclub comedian Joey Bishop (1918-2007), a member of Frank Sinatra's celebrated "Rat Pack", appeared in films in four decades, from The Naked and the Dead (1958) to Mad Dog Time (1996), including Rat Pack films Ocean's Eleven (1960) and Sergeant's Three (1962). He also starred in two TV programs: The Joey Bishop Show (1961-1965), a sitcom, and a late night talk show (1967-1969). Bishop was known for his catch phrase, "Son of a Gun!" While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him.
