Original Art inscribed and signed: "Happiness Always/to John Raitt/Alice Faye", 5½x8½. Pencil
drawing also signed by the artist "J Raitt". Alice Faye (1915-1998) was a chorus girl who rose
to movie stardom in such films as In Old Chicago (1938), Rose of Washington Square
(1939) and Tin Pan Alley (1940). She retired from regular film work after quarreling with
producer Daryl Zanuck during filming of Fallen Angel (1945). She also co-starred with
husband Phil Harris in a popular and long-running radio comedy show with musical
interludes (1948-1964). Semi-retired thereafter, Faye remained popular on TV and in
nightclub appearances. As a spokesperson for Pfizer chemicals in later years, Faye promoted an
active senior lifestyle.While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits
of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed
and returned to him. Two horizontal folds (½-inch tear at bottom fold at right). Tape affixed
at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
