JOHN RAITT and ART CARNEY
Original portrait of Moore, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both!
Original Art inscribed and signed: "To John Raitt/With all good wishes/and thank you/Art Carney", Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". Stage, screen and television actor ART CARNEY (1918-2003) began his show business career as a comedian, moving into a sidekick role for others. While serving in WWII, Carney was hit by shrapnel (leaving him with a slight limp) during the Normandy landing. After the war he found much work on Broadway, both as a dramatic and comic actor. He is best known, however, for his role as Ed Norton, Jackie Gleason's pal, on the classic 1950s TV sitcom, The Honeymooners. Later, personal problems caused him to leave the Broadway run of The Odd Couple (Carney had originated the role of Felix Unger in 1965). He soon returned to work as an actor, going on to win the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance as a 72-year-old in Harry and Tonto in 1974. Carney also won several Emmy Awards for his work on TV, and he was nominated for the 1969 Best Actor Tony Award. JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people while a college student in the 1930s. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Two horizontal folds. Adhesive residue at corners and blank margins. Tape affixed at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
