JOHN RAITT and CONNIE SMITH

Original portrait of Smith, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both!

Original Art inscribed and signed: "To John/Thanks so much!/Love You!/Connie Smith", 5½x8½. Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". Connie Smith, born Constance Meadows in Elkhart, Indiana in 1941, is a country singer and guitarist who got her start with occasional singing gigs on local TV shows in Marietta, Ohio. Country star Bill Edwards heard her sing in 1963 and helped get her her first record contract in 1964. 20 of Smith's singles have reached the Billboard Country Singles Top 10 between 1964 and 1976, including the chart-topper Once a Day(1964), and six of her albums have made it to the Top 10 as well, including the No. 1 albums Connie Smith (1956), Cute 'n' Country (1965) and Born to Sing (1966). Her most recent album as of this biography is 2003's Love Never Fails, and she continues to perform, especially at the Grand Ole Opry. While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Two horizontal folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
