JOHN RAITT and PHIL DONAHUE Original portrait of Donahue, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both Original Art inscribed and signed: "To/John/with best wishes/Phil Donahue", 5½x8½. Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". Host of the popular, Emmy Award-winning TV talk show, The Phil Donahue Show, PHIL DONAHUE (B. 1935) was one of the originators of the daytime talk show format, featuring panel discussions on controversial social issues, celebrity guests and audience participation. First broadcast in 1967, Donahue earned high ratings with viewers, despite growing competition from other talk show programs, straight through its final segment in 1996. Donahue, who was an interviewer for the Today show from 1979-1982, has also hosted three other series: Donahue and Kids (1981), Donahue/Pozner (1992) and Donahue (2002-2003, on MSNBC). The recipient of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Lifetime Achievement Award, Donahue has also guest starred in feature films, made-for-TV movies and television series, often appearing as himself or as a fictional talk show host. He has been married to his second wife, actress Marlo Thomas, the daughter of actor/producer Danny Thomas, since May 21, 1980. JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people while attending college in the 1930s. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Two horizontal folds. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
