JOHN RAITT and CONWAY TWITTY Original portrait of Twitty, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both! Original Art signed: "Conway Twitty", 5½x8½. Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". Although he became best known as a country music legend, Conway Twitty (1933-1993), born Harold Lloyd Jenkins, began his career in rock and roll, becoming a teen idol in 1958 with his first #1 hit, "It's Only Make Believe". Twitty, who would have 55 #1 records over his career (his last was "Crazy in Love" in 1990), was a versatile performer, equally adept in rock 'n' roll, R&B, blues, Dixieland, gospel, rockabilly and pure country music. After signing as a country artist in 1965, Twitty had four straight #1 country hits, and in the 1980s he was the most consistent hit-maker in the history of country music. His other hits include "Hello Darlin'", "Linda on My Mind" and "You've Never Been This Far Before", and all of his 12 duets with Loretta Lynn made it to the Top 10 (five were #1 hits). Conway, who also appeared in several feature films and made TV guest appearances, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998. While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Two horizontal folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
