JOHN RAITT and GERALDINE A. FERRAROOriginal portrait of Ferraro, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both! Original Art signed: "Geraldine A. Ferraro", 5x8. Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". The first woman nominated for Vice President by a major U.S. party, Geraldine Anne Ferraro (1935-2011) was Walter Mondale's running mate on the Democratic ticket in 1984, losing in a landslide to the incumbents, Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Before her precedent setting run, Ferraro had served New York as an Assistant District Attorney and a Representative in the U.S. Congress (1979-1985). She sought her Party's nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, but lost a hotly contested primary. Ferraro, who published her autobiography, Ferraro: My Story, in 1885, was the co-host of Crossfire on CNN from 1996-1998. While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Two horizontal folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
