Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "JRaitt". Authors and journalists Charles Bernard Nordhoff (1887-1947) and James Norman Hall (1887-1951) co-wrote the 1932 novel Mutiny on the Bounty. The son of American authorWalter Nordhoff, Charles Nordhoff was born in London, England. In 1920, he collaborated with fellow journalist James Norman Hall to create The Lafayette Flying Corps. The two continued to work together and wrote for Harper's Magazine and The Atlantic and there next work Faery Lands of the South Seas was serialized by Harper's. Hall, born in Colfax, Iowa, met Nordhoff after serving overseas in World War I. The two are best remembered for Mutiny on the Bounty along with its sequels Men Against the Sea (1933) and Pitcairn's Island (1934). Other collaborations include Falcons of France (1929), The Hurricane (1936), The Dark River (1938), No More Gas (1940), Botany Bay (1941), Men Without Country (1942) and High Barbaree (1945). While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him.
