JOHN RAITT and JESSE VENTURA Original portrait of Ventura, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both! Original Art signed: "Jesse Ventura", 5½x8½. Original pencil drawing signed in ink by Ventura and in the original pencil by the artist, "JRaitt". JESSE VENTURA (b. 1951) is known as a military veteran, wrestler, author, actor, and politician. He enlisted in the United States Navy right out of high school, serving in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1975. Following his time in the military, he became a professional wrestler with the WWF for over a decade. It was for his wrestling persona that he changed his name from James Janos to Jesse Ventura. In 2004, Ventura was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. After a single term as Mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, from 1991 to 1995, Ventura won election as Minnesota Governor as the Reform Party candidate against two political heavyweights: Republican Norm Coleman (Mayor of St Paul), and Hubert H. Humphrey III, (Minnesota Attorney General). Ventura's maverick stances defied conventional divisions in U.S. politics. Declining to run for re-election as Governor in 2002, Ventura has since written several books on politics and served as a television host. Ventura is famous for his anti-establishment perspectives along with his support of a number of conspiracy theories. JOHN RAITT began drawing celebrities while attending college in the 1930s. For many years thereafter he sent his artwork to the subjects, requesting that they autograph and return it. Two horizontal folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
