"Raitt". Stage and screen actress Katharine Cornell (1898-1974), who was known as "The
First Lady of the American Theater", won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for
Anthony and Cleopatra (1948). She also appeared in a number of feature films, including
Stage Door Canteen (1943), and narrated The Unconquered (1954), the story of Helen
Keller. Cornell starred in a Broadway performance of George Bernard Shaw's Saint George
(March to May 1936).While in college in the 1930s, JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits
of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed
and returned to him. Two horizontal folds. Adhesive residue at corners. Light surface damage
at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
