JOHN RAITT and WALTER CRONKITE
Original portrait of Moore, drawn by John Raitt, signed by both!
Original Art signed: "An excellent likeness -/Congratulations!/Walter Cronkite", 5x8. Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". WALTER CRONKITE (1916-2009) joined CBS News in 1950 and was the anchorman and managing editor of the CBS Evening News from 1962-1981. A reporter since 1939, he had been chosen (by lot) to be the only newsman to cover the June 6, 1944 Normandy invasion from the air. He was long considered "the most trusted man in America." When the news anchor turned critical of the Vietnam War in 1968, President Johnson reportedly said, "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost America." Cronkite remained active with documentaries and special public affairs programs, including hosting the Kennedy Center Honors for many years. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1981, and published his autobiography, A Reporter's Life, in 1997. JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people while a college student in the 1930s. He sent his artwork to each subject with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Adhesive residue at corners. Tape affixed at bottom left corner. Two horizontal folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
