Pencil drawing also signed by the artist "Raitt". THE STATLER BROTHERS signed with
Columbia Records in 1964 and a year later scored a huge country and pop hit with Flowers
on the Wall, written by Lew DeWitt. Flowers on the Wall earned them a Grammy Award,
and they won another award for their 1972 single Class of '57. In all, they have 30 Top 10
hits on the Billboard Country and Pop Singles charts, including the chart-toppers Do You
Know You Are My Sunshine(1978), Elizabeth (1983), My Only Love (1984) and Too
Much on My Heart (1985).They performed on the road with Johnny Cash from 1963 to
1971 and recorded for Mercury Records from 1971 to 1995.While in college in the 1930s,
JOHN RAITT began drawing portraits of famous people. He sent his artwork to each subject
with a request that it be autographed and returned to him. Ink at top left "The Statlers" lightly
bleeding. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine
condition.
