Typed Letter signed: "John Ridgely", 1 page, 8½x11. Burbank, California, 1945 May 11. On personal Warner Brothers Studios letterhead to Dear Victoria. In full: "I want to thank you for your letter on "The Doughgirls" and my performance in it. It was very thoughtful of you to write me. I am sorry to have been so long in writing to you but I have been very busy working and my letters have just had to wait. After "The Doughgirls" was finished, I did parts in "God Is My Co-Pilot", "The Big Sleep", "My Reputation", and "The Pride Of The Marines". At the present time I am working in "Danger Signal". Why not let me know how you like these? Thank you once again for your letter and your interest. I hope the photograph I sent you reached promptly. Sincerely," John Ridgeley (1909-1968), known as "Mr. Average Man", was featured mostly in war and other action films. He debuted in Submarine D-1 (1937), and played supporting roles in such World War II dramas as Destination Tokyo and Pride of the Marines. He had prominent roles in two Howard Hawks films: as a gangster in The Big Sleep (1946) and as the commanding officer in Air Force (1947). One of his last film roles was in the SF epic When Worlds Collide (1951). The Doughgirls was released in 1944. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly toned around edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
