Includes 16 pages of b/w photos. Veteran journalist Alexander, the author of several biographies, draws a positive portrait of the Senator. McCain (1936-2018) is an American politician. In the Vietnam War, he spent five years as a POW, two of them in solitary confinement. The son and grandson of Navy Admirals, McCain received a number of medals for his service. He served as a U.S. Congressman from Arizona from 1983 to 1987 and in the U.S. Senate since 1987. After a strong but unsuccessful bid for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2000, McCain secured the nomination in 2008, naming as his running mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The McCain Palin ticket lost the general election to Democrats Barack Obama and Joseph Biden by 365 to 173 Electoral Votes. Fine condition.
