Signature: "John S. C. Abbott/Fair Haven,/Connecticut/June 14th
1875", 4x3 slip, attached to a 7¾x5 card. American author and clergyman
John Stevens Cabot Abbott (1805-1877) wrote over 54 books, including his
four-volume The History of Napoleon Bonaparte. These popular
volumes are credited with stimulating interest in history. Thirty-two of his
volumes of biography, as well as an illustrated New Testament, were written with
his brother, Jacob Abbott (1803-1879). Corners and edges lightly worn. Lightly
toned. Adhesive residue on verso. Faint staining near right margin of signature.
