Autograph Quotation signed: "John S.C. Abbott", 3x1¾ card. Fair Haven, Conn., 1873 July 14. In full: "'Count that day lost whose low descending sun views at thy hand, no worthy action done''". American author and clergyman John Stevens Cabot Abbott (1805-1877) wrote over 54 books, including his four-volume The History of Napoleon Bonaparte. Thirty-two of his volumes of biography, as well as an illustrated New Testament, were written with his brother, Jacob Abbott (1803-1879). The author of the oft-cited verse Abbott quotes here is unknown. Slightly creased and soiled, else fine condition.
