Autograph letter signed: "John Scanlan" in blue ink. 1 page, 5½x7¼. December 30, 1967. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, To keep you up to date on my activities to the bitter end of 1967- I opened in The Christmas Carol at the RKO 86th St. Theatre (a Damon Runyon Cancer Fund Charity Foundation Chiefly) as the solicitor and Ghost of Christmas Present, then replaced Larry Blyden as Scrooge for five performances of a nine performance run, concluding on Dec. 30th. Cordially". John Scanlan (1921-1994) was a performer of the stage and screen, best known as a character actor. He appeared in the Captain Brassbound's Conversation (1972). Off-Broadway, he has appeared in Geese (1969), Beyond Desire (1967) and To Bury a Cousin (1967). Scanlan gave over one thousand performances of the one-man show Richard Mansfield, Curtain Call in various regional theatres. His movie credits include Green Card (1990) and The Hudsucker Proxy (1994). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Light stain in bottom margin. Light toning.
