London-born director John Schlesinger (1926-2003) won the Academy Award for Best Director for Midnight Cowboy (1969), and he was nominated for Best Director Oscars for Darling (1965) and Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971). Also nominated for Golden Globes for Darling, Midnight Cowboy and The Front (1976), Schlesinger, a veteran of WWII, had made his first short film in 1948, and he made documentaries for the BBC from 1958-1961. His long list of feature film credits also includes Terminus (1961), Billy Liar (1963), Far from the Madding Crowd (1967), Marathon Man (1976), Yanks (1979) and The Next Best Thing (2000, his last film), and Schlesinger also directed several made-for-TV movies, including Separate Tables (1983) and The Tale of Sweeney Todd (1998). He also appeared in several films and made guest appearances on TV series. Schlesinger was appointed a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 1970. Slightly creased at left corners. Minor surface smudges (not evident head on). Fine condition.
