Photograph signed "John Schlesinger" in blue ink.B/w, 10x8
overall, 9¾x7½ image, one surface. Stamped on verso: "Photographed
by/Michael Childers". Schlesinger (1926-2003, born in London, England)
won the Academy Award for Best Director for Midnight Cowboy
(1969), and he was nominated for Best Director Oscars for Darling
(1965) and Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971). Also nominated for Golden
Globes for Darling, Midnight Cowboy and The Front
(1976), Schlesinger, a veteran of WWII, had made his first short film in 1948,
and he made documentaries for the BBC from 1958-1961. His long list of
feature film credits also includes Terminus (1961), Billy
Liar (1963), Far from the Madding Crowd (1967), The Day of the
Locust (1975), Marathon Man (1976), Yanks (1979) and The
Next Best Thing (2000, his last film), and Schlesinger also directed
several made-for-TV movies, including Separate Tables (1983) and
The Tale of Sweeney Todd (1998). He also appeared in several films and
made guest appearances on TV series. Schlesinger was made a CBE (Commander of
the British Empire) in 1970. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Signature is
faint but legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
