Sherman Cooper/U. S. Senator from/Kentucky/Dec 21, 1972" in blue ink. 3½x2
card. A Republican Senator from Kentucky (1946-1949, 1952-1955,
1956-1973), Cooper (1901-1991) was one of the seven members of the
Warren Commission appointed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson to investigate
the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He was also U. S. Ambassador
to India and Nepal (1955-1956) and East Germany (1974-1976) and a Kentucky
delegate to the Republican National Convention (1948, 1956, 1960 and 1972).
Lightly toned. Paper clip impression at top edge, which touches signature.
