U. S. Senator from Kentucky John Sherman Cooper signed this letter, typed on U. S. Senate Committee on Public Works stationery, to an autograph hunter in 1966. Cooper was a member of the Warren Commission, appointed to investigate the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Typed letter signed "John Sherman Cooper" in blue ink. 1 page, 8x10½, on stationery of the U. S. Senate Committee on Public Works, 3 binder holes at left edge. Aug. 8, 1966. Addressed to Miss Barbara Stephens, Los Angeles, California. In full: "Dear Barbara: I want to thank you for writing to me recently and I am happy to autograph the magazine cover you enclosed [not enclosed]. I appreciate your writing to me, and hope we will have a chance to meet some day. My wife is originally from Pasadena and I work in the Senate with your two Senators, both fine men. I hope you will let me know if there is anything further I may do for you. And with kind regards, I am Sincerely yours, John Sherman Cooper". A Republican Senator from Kentucky (1946-1949, 1952-1955, 1956-1973), Cooper (1901-1991) was one of the seven members of the Warren Commission appointed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson to investigate the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He was also U. S. Ambassador to India and Nepal (1955-1956) and East Germany (1974-1976) and a Kentucky delegate to the Republican National Convention (1948, 1956, 1960 and 1972). Lightly toned and creased. Light dent in top left corner. Staple holes in top corners. Folded once and unfolded. Fold is discolored on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
