Color, 7¾x10. Stage, screen and television actor John Spencer (1946-2005), born Jonh Speshock, won Screen Actors Guild awards in 2001 and 2002 and he was nominated for Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor five times (winning in 2002) for his role as Chief of Staff Leo McGarry on the acclaimed television series, The West Wing. Spencer, who began his television career as a regular on The Patty Duke Show (Henry Anderson, 1964-1965), also had regular roles on One Life to Live (1987), As The World Turns (1988), Another World (1988), L.A. Law (Tommy Mullaney, 1990-1994) and Trinity (1998-1999), and he guest starred on a number of TV series. Spencer's film credits include WarGames (1983), Simple Justice (1990), Presumed Innocent (1990), The Rock (1996), The Negotiator (1998) and Ravenous (1999). In addition to his roles on the big and small screens, Spencer was also a successful stage actor. He won an Obie Award for his performance in Still Life in 1981 and received a Drama Desk Award nomination for his role in The Day Room in 1988, and Spencer was nominated for a Drama League Award for his portrayal of Dan White, the assassin of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Councilman Harvey Milk in the 1986 play, Execution of Justice.
