JOHN T. EDSALL
Typed Letter to a fellow scientist on letterhead of Harvard's
Biological Laboratories
Typed Letter signed: "John T. Edsall", 1 page, 5½x8½.
Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1979 May 4. On letterhead of The Biological
Laboratories, Harvard University, to Dr. David A. Marcus, Palm Springs,
California. In full: "Thank you for your thoughtful inquiry of April
20. I have just been stimulated by Jeremy Stone's latest FAS questionnaire to
set down my current thoughts about energy policy. I enclose a copy, which I
think constitutes my answer to your letter. [Item not included.] Yours
sincerely". John T. Edsall (1902-2002) was a pioneer protein
scientist and founding co-editor of Advances in Protein Chemistry
(1944). He was a close friend of Harvard classmate J. Robert Oppenheimer,
developer of the atomic bomb, but Edsall's research during World War II was
devoted to blood protein. (FAS, however, is the Federation of Atomic
Scientists.) Harvard honored Edsall for his teaching excellence as well as for
his research. Ink stain on bottom half of page. Light surface creases. Paper
clip crease on top margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
