pamphlet for the 1995 film White Man's Burden. Travolta stars in this
drama about an alternative America where African Americans are the social elite
and whites inhabit the ghettos. Travolta loses his job, is beaten by police
officers and evicted from his home, he decides to kidnap his former boss,
demanding justice. Travolta was a hit in the TV sitcom Welcome Back,
Kotter (1975-1977), then became a cultural phenomenon with the release of
the films and soundtracks of Saturday Night Fever (1977) and
Grease (1978). His Urban Cowboy (1980) gave as big a boost to
country music as Saturday Night Fever had for disco. Travolta's career
seemed in decline in the 1980s, but big successes in Pulp Fiction (1994),
Get Shorty (1995), Face/Off (1997) and Swordfish (2002)
heralded his return as a major American actor. Travolta received Academy
Award nominations for both Saturday Night Fever and Pulp
Fiction. Edges and corners lightly
