Shown on the cover of a November 1, 1968 issue of Time magazine, accompanied by his personal typed letter to the collector
Magazine Cover signed: "John V. Lindsey", 8¼x11. Time magazine cover for November 1, 1968. Cover story: "New York: The Breakdown of a City". Accompanied by a typed transmittal letter signed: "John V. Lindsay", 1 page, 8½x11. New York City, New York, 1970 December 7. On The City of New York: Office of the Mayor letterhead and addressed to Mr. Martin R. Federman, Melrose Park, Pennsylvania. In part: "I have autographed the enclosed magazine cover as requested and am returning it to you with my best wishes." John Vliet Lindsay (1921-2000) was Mayor of New York City from 1966-1973. Lindsay, who had previously served as a U.S. Congressman from New York (1959-1965), received one delegate vote on the first ballot at the 1968 Republican National Convention. He became a Democrat in 1971 and ran a short-lived campaign for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. A veteran of WWII, Lindsay had practiced law before entering politics. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
