JOHN Y. McCOLLISTER
The Nebraskan Member of Congress sends letter to an admirer, signs name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "John Y. McCollister" in black ink. 1 page, 8x10½, affixed to 8½x11 piece of black cardstock. Written on personal House of Representatives letterhead. Washington, D.C. August 2, 1972. Addressed to Mr. Doug Voegler of Schuyler, Nebraska. In full: "I am happy to send you an autographed photograph of myself as you requested from my office last week. I hope that you enjoyed your visit to Washington, D.C., and that the next time you are here you can schedule a visit to my office. If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. Sincerely". John Y. McCollister (1921-2013) was a Nebraska Republican politician. After serving during WWII as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve, McCollister became President of his own McCollister & Co., a personal holding company, from 1960 to 1971, and again from 1979-1986. During this time, he became very involved in the Nebraska Republican Party, serving as a delegate to the Nebraska State Republican conventions from 1960 to 1970, and as delegate to the 1968 Republican National Convention. In 1970 he was elected as a Republican to the U.S. Congress, a position he served for the next six years before deciding to run for Senate, albeit unsuccessfully. He was a presidential elector for Nebraska in 2000. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Binding holes in right margin of cardstock. Otherwise, fine condition.
