Document signed: "Johnny Ray", 1 page, 6½x6½. No place, 1954 May 20. His ink signature on a mimeographed form letter designating an agent to accept checks or money payable to Ray. Ray has crossed out the name Famous Actors Corporation at two points, substituting in his own hand the name of business agent Bernard A. Lang. The tear-inflected voice of pop singer Johnnie Ray (1927-1990) made him as an early 1950s sensation. His 1951 histrionic million-seller "Cry", with background vocals by The Four Lads, remained perched atop the charts for nearly three months. Nicknamed "The Prince of Wails", Ray, who was nearly deaf, encored with "The Little White Cloud That Cried", "Walkin' My Baby Back Home" and "Just Walking in the Rain". His frenzied antics set off riots among female admirers during his heyday. Multiple mailing folds. Surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
