Irregularly clipped pencil signature on an album leaf bearing a newspaper photo of him
Signature: "Johnnie/Davis". Irregularly clipped pencil signature affixed to 5¾x4¼ yellow album leaf with 2¾x3 newspaper photo at left (3 surfaces). Ink captions (unknown hand) above and below signature. Johnnie "Scat" Davis (1910-1983) played trumpet and sang with several orchestras, notably Fred Waring's. He introduced the popular Johnny Mercer song "Hooray for Hollywood" in the film Hollywood Hotel (1937), and went on to appear in 15 movies, including Cowboy from Brooklyn (1938). Soiled and creased.
