JOHNNY CARSON
Inscribed photo of a youthful Carson in a bow tie
Photograph inscribed and signed: "For Michael/Johnny Carson". B/w,
8x10. In 1952, Johnny Carson made one of his earliest national appearances on
The Jack Benny Program. In 1954, while serving as one of the writers
on The Red Skelton Show, Carson appeared on the show when Skelton had a
minor accident during rehearsal. From May 23, 1954 to September 5, 1954, 27-year
old Carson hosted a prime-time game show on CBS called Earn Your Vacation
and appeared briefly in the winter of early 1955 on the CBS Morning Show,
filling in for the vacationing Jack Paar. From 1955-1956, he hosted two CBS
variety shows, first on Thursday nights then on daytime, each called The
Johnny Carson Show. On September 30, 1957, Do You Trust Your Wife?
premiered on ABC, hosted by Carson. By July 1958, its name was changed to Who
Do You Trust? and a few months later, Carson was teamed with a new
announcer, Ed McMahon. On October 1, 1962, Carson and McMahon left Who Do
You Trust? to succeed Jack Paar as permanent hosts of The Tonight
Show on NBC and the rest, as they say, is television history. Fine
condition.
